How to remove the itchiness on wool clothing?

Asked by [ Editor ]

I bought a pair of wool pants last year. I ceased from using it because It is very itchy. Is there a way to remove the itchiness on the pants?

I think the quality of pants often have a big impact on wool wearability! Cheaper, less fine wools might just 'rub you the wrong way.' My mother has a wool allergy, so it makes buying pants and sweaters difficult in the cold months. She finds it in general extremely itchy and it can give her a rash... maybe you are allergic on some small level?

What are the wash instructions? Sometimes a good wash can take the itch out... but wool usually doesn't dry so well ;)

Bottom line, if your skin is sensitive to wool... now you know to avoid it.

There's not really anything you can do to reduce this problem. The thickness and length of the fibres are usually what determine the itchiness factor - hence the high price of less coarse wools like cashmere.

The best thing to do is to give yourself some kind of barrier. I have a similarly itchy pair of trousers and I wear them with a decent pair of tights underneath which makes them fine. Depending on what the trousers are like and if you're handy with a sewing machine you could attempt to line them retrospectively as well.
